Taking on a Story a Day

There are days when I wonder if I’m just a little bit crazy. In a way, I suspect all of us creative people are, and, while I’d say that was a post for another time, someone already covered the topic far better than I could. However, the reason why I say this is not because of the various people talking at me in my brain (although they do that quite a bit), but because a certain friend of mine enabled me to participate in StoryADay this year.

What is a StoryADay, you ask? Well, if you’ve ever participated in NaNoWriMo, StoryADay is almost the same thing, except without a wordcount limit save for one you might impose upon yourself. The whole point of StoryADay is to, you guessed it, write (and finish) a story every day in the month of May, although what “every day” means is entirely up to you. Do you only have time to write three times a week? Go right ahead and do that! Do you have to be able to keep your weekends free for whatever reason and are only able to write during the week? That’s okay, too! So long as you have your rules and stick to them, anything is fair game!

For me, I’m using it as an excuse to kick my writing back into high gear. I used to do this all the time when I was younger, but school happened and then life happened and my writing pretty much fell by the wayside. Oh, I still write every now and then, but I honestly never feel like it’s anywhere near as much as what I used to. I’m also hoping this will help me out a bit with my apparent inability to finish any of the writing I start, so, you know, there’s that. I don’t know if I can manage a story every single day of the week, so, for me, I’m shooting for at least three. If I manage that, I will be happy. If I can do more, I will be ecstatic.

Now, I won’t be posting every single thing I write here. If I like something enough and think it might be worth submitting at some point, that will get held back, but, for the most part, expect to see things here. I’m really nervous about that, so… be nice? As of this post, we also have a StoryADay category for easy organizing!

In a few more minutes on the east coast of the United States, it begins! Who else is participating? Let’s dive into the madness together, guys!
